Favorite Films/Series

During class we were tasked with sharing our favorite films/series with all of you. It could be any film/series we wanted, though the catch was we would share personal gifs we created to demonstrate them. So here are two of my picks—one film, one series.

The Emperor’s New Groove

The Emperor’s New Groove is one of all-time favorite films ever, partially because I grew up with it, but also because it’s a great film in it’s own right. A simple tale of spoiled royalty being forced to leave his own bubble is a fine concept on its own, but what really elevates it is the comedic tone of it all. Kuzco doesn’t get humbled by living and relating to the lives of peasants’, but rather by becoming a llama. It sounds like an odd concept, but somehow it pulls it off earnestly and with a bunch of laughs to boot.

While The Emperor’s New Groove is my favorite film, my favorite series is a bit of a tonal whiplash.

The Boys

The premise of The Boys is its most brilliant asset. It posits the question of—What would superheroes in real life actually look like? The Boys responds to this in the most logical way by saying that superheroes would be treated as any other business in the world—an industry. Entire companies dedicated to hiring superheroes with the goal of making merchandise, movies, documentaries, commercials, and so and so forth. That sounds incredibly boring to say the least. But The Boys makes it more interesting by peeling back the curtains and revealing what superheroes’ personal lives look like—and it’s not pretty. At all. I can’t get into specifics without spoiling stuff but be sure that things get real very fast. All I have to say is that the first episode does an incredibly good job at setting up what the whole show is about, so take a gander at it to see if it suits you.

And with that I’ve given you a sneak peek into my film life. Don’t worry, I’ve already got my eyes on the next game so be on the lookout for that! Until next time!
